Learn the stories of the people who actually built Charleston! Can't recommend this more highly. The tour guide was animated, funny, and loaded with interesting bits of history. More importantly, his are the stories of the other half of Charleston, the African American freedmen and slaves who made up 50% or more of the town during slavery. Who knew that rich freedmen owned slaves of their own? The only thing keeping it from a five star rating is that he spent a lot of time pointing out the metal work of a world-renowned wrought-iron blacksmith. Not that it consumed the whole tour, but it was mentioned often enough that I got a little bored with that part. Still, the whole tour is well worth it, especially since you learn things you don't learn on most other tours!
